ONE CAN’T FIGHT ALONE – CANCER PATIENTS NEED PUBLIC SUPPORT
“One can’t fight alone” – a project of “Onkoalianse” and Latvian Association of Chemotherapists and Oncologists to promote public support for cancer patients.
The theme of the project resonates with the 2023 World Cancer Day call to reduce the gap between cancer patients and society, and its goal is to encourage people of Latvia to understand that everyone can provide support to cancer patients on a daily basis; to be empathetic and observant – to notice people diagnosed with cancer at work, in the neighbourhood, among friends, relatives, not to be silent and to offer them help. On the other hand, cancer patients should learn to accept and ask for help as well.
One of the central events of the project is the expert discussion “One can’t fight alone. How to help cancer patients?” online on the DELFI platform and in person (discussion recording available HERE (https://www.facebook.com/events/692774869064100?ref=newsfeed) One can’t fight alone, especially when the fight is difficult and sometimes even scary, as in the case of oncological diseases. What kind of support do cancer patients expect, need and value, and what kind of help is society willing or not ready to provide?
