NATIONAL ONCOLOGY PLAN OF LATVIA IN THE LIGHT OF THE EUROPEAN CANCER PLAN
Fighting cancer is one of the major EC’s health priorities, which is why the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan was adopted two years ago, opening a new approach to cancer prevention, treatment and care for cancer patients. Last year, the Latvian government also approved a new Oncology plan, the main goal of which is the development of integrated healthcare services to prevent premature mortality from oncological diseases.
Latvian cancer patients are in an unequal situation compared to their peers in other EU countries, as well as in Lithuania and Estonia. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has concluded that Latvia provides good financial access to inpatient and outpatient cancer care for all residents, but inequality and limitations exist in relation to innovative anticancer drugs, cancer prevention and access to care.
The focus of the online seminar is the first stage of the implementation of the Latvian Oncology plan, especially in the context of the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, compliance of the measures planned in Latvia with the European plan and the recommendations received in previous years, progress in the availability of diagnostics, innovative medicines and treatments, improvement of patient care, increase of state budget funding.
